ACTION TODAY

from The Malta Independent, December 15, 2001

Turned off by hunting

Having recently spent two weeks in Malta, I am writing to express our dismay at being "privileged" to witness the wholesale massacre and trapping of wild birds.

The killing, freezing and stuffing of wild birds is surely something that was done in Victorian times before anyone knew any better.

This must undoubtedly be affecting your tourism industry. We have friends who were waiting to see what we thought of Malta before visiting themselves. Having told them of our experience, they have decided not to visit.

Isn't it time Malta banned this so-called "hunting"? Bird numbers are declining and eventually this level of "loss" will become unsustainable.
