Fine for Osprey shooter
Yesterday the case of the hunter who last year killed the osprey from a main road was concluded. He was found guilty, fined
Lm500 (ca 1250 Euro), had his shotgun confiscated, and had his hunting licence withdrawn for an indefinite period! That's
about the toughest penalty he could get under the present legislation. The only additional penalty would have been a jail
term, which is anyway always suspended for a 2-3 year period. On the other hand, all the other offences presented
yesterday were given the minimum penalty, that of Lm50 (ca 125 Euros) fine. Thanks to all for the support re this
case (letters sent to Maltese media etc). A quick pat on the back for us all,, but let's keep working. Justin Vassallo
