MALTA'S IMAGE ABROAD IS SUFFERING The President of Malta Prof. Guido de Marco
Dear President de Marco, You have received many letters over the past year expressing concern over
the damage that uncontrolled illegal hunting and trapping is inflicting both on your natural environment and, increasingly,
on Malta's reputation abroad. Many of us are waiting for a response; or at least the positive exercise of your considerable
political influence, which you enjoy on the basis of your office and long and distinguished political career. Recent
events show that the Maltese public are no longer prepared to remain silent and permit Malta's and European wildlife to be
destroyed senselessly by a small uncivilised minority who terrorise anyone who dares to oppose or criticise them. The citizens
of your islands will soon turn their attention to the political and executive organs which have, for years, turned a blind
eye to atrocities which are condemned in the European Union - to which Malta aspires to be a member very soon. We
appeal to you to use the authority of your office to influence those in executive positions to put an end to practices which
have no place in a modern, environmentally aware, society. Practices which slowly but surely threaten to adversely affect
the future of the tourist industry which is the kingpin of your economy. We ask you to take this, and all similar
letters seriously. Not all Europeans are capable of expressing themselves perfectly in English; or have the time to compose
individual texts; but the content and sentiments of this letter reflect our views entirely. Yours
sincerely, [Name & Address]
