A man was yesterday fined Lm500 and had his licence suspended for a year after he was found Guilty of possession of a number of protected birds and animals, including bears, wolves and weasels.
Roger Degiorgio, 46, from Mosta, was accused of stuffing protected birds or animals during the months preceding 18 August 1997.
He was also charged with not keeping register entries giving details of the bird owners and being in possession of a protected bird, namely the pigmy cormorant.
Degiorgio was also charged with having in his possession a bird without the necessary authorisation, being in possession of a number of animals whose importation is limited without the necessary authorisation, namely wolves and bears, as well as being in possession of a number of protected animals, namely the weasel.
The court, presided by magistrate Abigail Lofaro, found the accused Guilty on all counts.
