ACTION TODAY

Letters to the Times of Malta, 26. January 2002

Looking for sanctuary

Marion J Dodd, Marsascala.

Sanctuary was what I was looking for,
I didn't know swans had been shot before,
I never thought when I came to rest,
I'd never have Cygnets on my nest.

I never knew when I touched down,
I'd never get the chance to turn around,
to fly back north so I could breed,
a protected species so I did not heed.

We are not afraid of the human kind,
they treat us well all of the time,
so why was my life taken away,
it was men with guns, that's what they say.

I guess I'll never understand man,
he thinks he has the right to kill when he can,
us birds are for everyone to love and enjoy
but man with their guns can only destroy.

DEADLY INSPIRATION
