In Club Méditerranée's reply to Proact they stated:
"(We have) ..commissioned a consultant recognized for the
quality of its analysis in term of environment to lead an impact study on the area and to ensure the good integration condition
of our project on the Tifnit site.
On another hand, GTZ has charged experts and advisers to review the final findings.
We therefore assume all the conditions are gathered to bring the best protection possible to the environment of
National Park of Souss Massa and more precisely to the Bald Ibis.
Our teams work in close link with the Head Office
of the National Park of Souss-Massa, the various experts and specialists (GTZ) and with the Birdlife representatives in Marocco."
WHO OR WHAT IS GTZ?
The German Society for Technical Cooperation (GTZ), which plays a leading role in these feasibility studies, is "a service
enterprise for development cooperation with worldwide operations." GTZ's main client is the German Federal Ministry

THREAT TO THE LAST HABITAT OF THE BALD IBIS
You will
be well aware of the pending threat to the last habitat in the world of the Bald Ibis. Indeed, your organisation will have
a major influence on whether this bird survives; or if yet another planetary species is unnecessarily lost to us and succeeding
generations. A heavy responsibility, which we hope you fully appreciate.
Since the recent appeal for support by the
Moroccan ornithological society GOMAC (Groupe d'ornithologie du Maroc), conservationists, birders and nature lovers in Europe
and the rest of the world have expressed their concern to a number of governmental, business and private organisations and
companies.
One of the central figures in this matter is the holiday resort group Club Méditerranée . They have publicly
stated that they are working in close cooperation with "the various experts and specialists (GTZ).". As you will
be principally responsible for reviewing the final findings; and no doubt for drafting of the detailed recommendations, we
would urge you to give proper weight to the ecological aspects, which are clearly overriding in this case, and not be over-influenced
by the illusory short-term financial gains for Moroccan tourism or the commercial interests of the Club Méditerranée group.

Bedrohung des letzten Lebensraumes für den Waldrapp
Sehr
geehrte Damen und Herren, (Sehr geehrte Frau Dr. Schmitt)
Wie Ihnen vermutlich bekannt ist, ist der letzte Lebensraum
des Waldrapps durch ein Bauprojekt bedroht. Ihre Organisation hat einen erheblichen Einfluss darauf, ob diese Vogelart überlebt,
oder ob eine weitere Spezies unwiederbringlich von diesem Planeten verschwindet. Wir habe die Hoffnung, dass sie sich dieser
schweren Verantwortung bewusst sind.
Durch einen Appell der Marokkanischen Ornithologischen Gesellschaft GOMAC(Groupe
d'ornithologie du Maroc) aufgeschreckt, haben in den letzten Wochen Naturschützer, Vogelkundler und Naturfreunde in Europa
und dem Rest der Welt ihre Besorgnis bezüglich dieses Projektes gegenüber einer Reihe von Regierungsstellen, Wirtschaftsunternehmen
und anderen Institutionen zum Ausdruck gebracht.
Eine zentrale Rolle in dieser Angelegenheit spielt das Tourismusunternehmen
Club Méditerranée. In einer Reaktion auf die Proteste verwies dieses Unternehmen auf ihre enge Zusammenarbeit mit "verschiedenen
Experten und Spezialisten (GTZ)". Wir fordern Sie auf, bei Ihren Begutachtungen und Empfehlungen den ökologischen Aspekten
ein angemessenes Gewicht verleihen und sich nicht durch die Aussicht auf kurzfristige Gewinne für den Marokkanischen Tourismus
bzw. für die finanziellen Interessen des Club Méditerranée verblenden zu lassen.
Eine Aktive Mithilfe bei der Ausrottung
dieser einzigartigen Vogelart würde auch dem Ansehen der GTZ schweren Schaden zufügen. Wir hoffen, dass Sie unsere Bedenken
verstehen und bei Ihren Untersuchungen berücksichtigen.
